Marina Pez Vela was conceived by U.S. businessman Harold Lovelady, a sportfishing enthusiast and current resident of Quepos, Costa Rica. His passion for fishing in the flat tranquil waters of Quepos—and a need for a full-service marina in the region—were the reasons Marina Pez Vela was born.

John Kane, a longtime business associate, was selected to become a partner in the project. John's expertise in the financial arena, as well as being the owner of Bass River Marina on Cape Cod, has added considerable expertise and enthusiasm to the development of Marina Pez Vela.

Jim Bronstien, former owner of renowned Rybovich, a sport fishing and yachting facility, and currently the owner of Marine Business Advisors, joined the partnership to help oversee the building of the boatyard as well as lead the sales and marketing activities for the marina.

The partners’ long-term goal is to be able to fully enjoy the many fishing opportunities in these waters, secure in the knowledge that a state-of-the-art, full-service marina lies ready for them back in port.
